PHP77 MILLION WORTH OF ILLEGAL DRUGS DESTROYED AT A THERMAL FACILITY IN CEBU CITY
Police Regional Office 7 Regional Director PBGEN ALBERT IGNATIUS FERRO together with the Cebu City Government and PDEA 7 Regional Director Levi Ortiz led the destruction of confiscated illegal drugs on Tuesday morning, October 13, at a thermal facility of Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes in Junquera Street, Cebu City.
A total of 11,114.01 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, 1,008.62 grams of marijuana, 32.80 grams of ephedrine, 2 grams of nalbuphine hydrochloride or nubain and expired medicines worth PhP1.9 million were disposed of by pyrolysis – is a process of chemically decomposing organic materials at higher temeperatures in the absence of oxygen. It simultaneously involves the change of physical phase and chemical composition and is an irreversible process. The destroyed dangerous drugs were a combination of evidence turned over from courts and PNP Crime Laboratory 7 and those in the repository of PDEA 7 Laboratory with decided cases.
The destruction of the dangerous drugs complies with the guidelines set on the custody and disposition of seized dangerous drugs required under Section 21, Article II of the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 as amended by the Republic Act 10640 and Dangerous Drugs Board Redolution No. 1, series of 2002.
Present during the event were the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 7, other law enforcement agencies, representatives from PAO, DOJ, ACCERT, Cebu City Government and members of the media.
